Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Compliance Policy

Qatar Post pays special attention to anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing, pursuant to the provisions of Law No. (20) of 2019 on Combatting Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing promulgated on 11 September 2019. The Post abides by the highest standards in this regard and complies with the requirements of the regulatory authorities, in line with the laws, regulations, controls and directives issued by Qatar Central Bank and the Financial Information Unit.

As a financial organization, Qatar Post is well aware, within the meaning of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Law, of the dangers and impacts of money laundering on a global level and seeks to prevent any money laundering operation and access by any terrorist or criminal entities to its financial system, by compliance with all applicable Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing laws and regulations and adopting the "Know Your Customer" principle.

To this effect, all policies and procedures have been established in line with the laws, regulations and instructions, including the Executive Regulations of Law No. (20) of 2019 promulgated by the Council of Ministers’ Decision No. 41 of 2019, which are based on innovative and rigorous regulatory and legislative initiatives provided for under this Law for combating any risks of money laundering by customers.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Qatar Post provides a money transfer service from Qatar to India in partnership with India Post using the UPI payment network.

The service fee is QAR 15 per transfer.

The Qatari Riyal to Indian Rupee exchange rate is available in the system and is updated daily. Staff must check the rate displayed on their screen before processing the transaction.

The amount is normally credited to the beneficiary's account within 10–15 minutes, subject to successful processing and bank availability.

The maximum amount is QAR 4,000 per transfer per week.

The amount must not exceed USD 2,500, and the beneficiary is limited to a maximum of 30 transactions per calendar year.

A UPI ID, also known as a Virtual Payment Address (VPA), is the identifier used to receive money through the UPI payment system.

Yes. A valid UPI ID / Virtual Payment Address is required to process the transfer.

Yes. The beneficiary in India must enable “Receive Money from Abroad”, also known as Foreign Inward Remittance (FIR) consent, in their UPI application before the transfer is initiated.

Yes. It is a mandatory one-time setting for the relevant bank account.

The transfer may fail even if the UPI ID and sender details are correct. The beneficiary should enable the setting before the transfer is initiated.

The sender must provide a valid Qatar ID, complete and sign the service form, and provide the required beneficiary information including the UPI ID.

The customer must review all transaction details on the receipt, verify them, and sign where required.

Check the customer's valid Qatar ID, verify the ID in the Money Transfer system, and verify the beneficiary and UPI details.

Yes. The required AML check must be completed before processing the transaction.

Yes. The IFS Limit Check must be completed before processing the transaction.

Do not proceed with the transaction. Complete the AML and IFS Limit Checks and follow the system instructions and applicable procedures.

Yes. All required documents must be scanned into the system for every transaction.

The amount depends on the exchange rate applicable at the time of the transaction. The applicable rate is displayed in the system.

The customer should retain the transaction receipt and contact Qatar Post Customer Service. Staff should first check the transaction status in the system.

The customer must carefully verify the UPI ID before confirming the transaction. Any amendment or cancellation after processing is subject to the applicable rules and system process.

The transfer is made through UPI. The beneficiary must have an eligible UPI-enabled bank account and a valid UPI ID that can receive the transfer.
